Project Updates

NEW! Exciting Update on Pilot Phase #1! Phase 2: 3,000 Participants

I am delighted to announce that the Pilot Albums for the Hispanic & Latino Resilience Photo Book Project have been printed and have officially arrived! Holding these powerful stories and portraits in our hands marks a meaningful step forward, made possible by the incredible support of our participants.

I am overwhelmed with gratitude and joy reflecting on the incredible success of our launch party. The energy in the room was simply unforgettable, and I am humbled by how well the project was received. To hear not only the confirmation from several attendees who are excited to share their journeys but also their enthusiasm to spread the word to others is beyond anything I could have hoped for. A heartfelt thank you to my amazing family, my tireless organizer, my supportive friends, and my wonderful beautician who helped me feel confident for the event. Special thanks to the FREE CNTR of Middletown for providing such a beautiful space to host this meaningful milestone.

Stay tuned for the next exhibit—this is only the beginning!

Invitation for 3,000 Participants

I Need Your Voices and Faces:

Calling the Spanish-speaking community in Connecticut! This is your chance to be part of an impactful project that celebrates our heritage and amplifies our voices. If you’re from Puerto Rico, Santo Domingo, South America, Central America, Mexico, Cuba, Spain, or have parents from these regions, and speak or understand Spanish, or if you’re biracial, we want to hear from you. Share your personal stories and be featured in a book that highlights our rich cultural tapestry. There are no hidden costs—just the honor of sharing your story and having your portrait included. Don't miss this unique opportunity!

Not in Connecticut

If you're not located in Connecticut but are eager to get involved, I would still love to hear from you! While the first phase of this project is a local pilot, I have hopes of expanding beyond the state. Once the pilot is completed and with the potential to secure funding, I aim to travel across the U.S. to connect with others and learn about their unique stories of cultural pride and resilience. If you’re interested in being part of this journey, please register today! I’ll also keep you in the loop as the project progresses, so you can stay connected and be part of this growing community.

A Little About Me - Bonnie Solivan

I am a second-generation Puerto Rican, born and raised in New York City. As a single mother of two amazing children, my journey has been shaped by many challenges—navigating language barriers, experiencing homelessness, unemployment, and pursuing my education as an adult learner while raising my kids. Yet, through it all, my roots, family, and traditions have instilled in me a resilience and strength I never knew I had.

Today, I am an educator and a part-time photographer, using my experiences to inspire others and capture stories of resilience and pride.

These portraits will be a visual representation of the richness of each individual's culture. No need to worry about timing—portraits and interviews will be arranged around your schedule, and I'll come to your preferred location to ensure a comfortable and personalized experience.

The stories and portraits will be compiled into a high-quality, large coffee table photobook as well as an online archive. Both will serve as lasting records that showcase the diversity and strength of the Spanish-speaking community.
